SSC 2017 Gold Medal Award Winner

Le récipiendaire de la médaille d’or 2017 de la Société statistique du Canada est le professeur Richard Cook. La médaille d’or est octroyée à une personne qui a contribué de façon remarquable à la statistique ou à la théorie des probabilités grâce à des développements mathématiques ou à des applications. Elle vise à honorer les chefs de file actuels d’un domaine.

Ce prix récompense la meilleure thèse en probabilités ou en statistique soutenue dans une université canadienne au cours de l’année.  La thèse de Yujie, intitulée « Life History Analysis with Response-Dependent Observation », a été rédigée lorsqu’elle était étudiante au doctorat à la University of Waterloo sous la supervision de Richard Cook.

The 2015 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Shelley Bull, Senior Investigator in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital and Professor in the Division of Biostatistics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.

The Canadian Journal of Statistics Award is presented each year by the Statistical Society of Canada to the author(s) of an article published in the Journal, in recognition of the outstanding quality of the methodological innovation and presentation. This year's winner is the article entitled "Semiparametric methods for survival analysis of case-control data subject to dependent censoring" (Volume 42, no. 3, pp. 365-383) by Douglas E. Schaubel, Hui Zhang, John D. Kalbfleisch, and Xu Shu.

John D. Kalbfleisch

John D. (Jack) Kalbfleisch, professeur émérite de biostatistique à l’Université du Michigan, a été fait member honoraire de la Société statistique du Canada. Ce titre vise à honorer un individu qui a contribué de manière exceptionnelle au développement des sciences statistiques au Canada et dont les travaux ont eu un impact majeur au pays.
 

Matías Salibián-Barrera, CRM-SSC Prize in Statistics 2015

Matías Salibián-Barrera

The CRM-SSC Prize in statistics is awarded annually by the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) and the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC). It is awarded in recognition of a statistical scientist's professional accomplishments in research during the first fifteen years after having received a doctorate. This year's winner is Matías Salibián-Barrera of the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Ying Yan est le récipiendaire du prix Pierre-Robillard 2014 de la Société statistique du Canada. Ce prix récompense la meilleure thèse en probabilités ou en statistique soutenue dans une université canadienne au cours de l’année. La thèse de Ying s’intitule « Statistical Methods on Survival Data with Measurement Error ». Elle a été rédigée à la University of Waterloo sous la direction de Grace Yi.
 

Agnes Herzberg, Lise Manchester Award 2014

Agnes Herzberg

Professor Agnes Herzberg is the 2014 recipient of the Lise Manchester Award. This biennial award is given by the Statistical Society of Canada in commemoration of the late Dr Lise Manchester’s abiding interest in using statistical methods to study matters of relevance to society. The award recognizes excellence in statistical research which considers problems of public interest and which is potentially useful for formation of Canadian public policy.

The Canadian Journal of Statistics Award is presented each year by the Statistical Society of Canada to the author(s) of an article published in the Journal, in recognition of the outstanding quality of the paper’s methodological innovation and presentation. This year’s winner is the article entitled “Self-concordance for empirical likelihood” (Volume 41, no. 3, pp. 387-397) by Art B. Owen.

John Petkau, SSC Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work 2014

John Petkau

The 2014 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is A. John Petkau, Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by members of the SSC in collaborative research and applied work, the importance of which derives primarily from its relatively recent impact on a subject area outside of the statistical sciences, on an area of application, or on an organization.

Mary Thompson, Distinguished Service Award 2014

Mary Thompson

Professor Mary Thompson is the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Service Award from the Statistical Society of Canada. This award honours an individual who has played an important and substantial role in fostering growth and success of the Canadian Statistical Sciences community through leadership in the SSC. Mary’s many years of strong and effective leadership have greatly benefited our society and this award is a fitting recognition for her commitment to our discipline and profession.
