The 2019 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Belkacem Abdous, professor at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Université Laval until 2017 and currently Director of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA), Rabat, Morocco.

Johanna Nešlehová

The CRM-SSC Prize in Statistics is awarded annually by the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) and the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) in recognition of outstanding research carried out primarily in Canada by a statistician during the first fifteen years after completing a PhD. The 2019 recipient of this prize is professor Johanna Nešlehová of McGill University.

The Canadian Journal of Statistics Award is presented each year by the Statistical Society of Canada to the author(s) of an article published in the journal, in recognition of the outstanding quality of the methodological innovation and presentation. This year’s winner is the article entitled “Likelihood inflating sampling algorithm.” (Volume 46, no. 1, pp. 147-175) by R. Entezari, R.V. Craiu, and J. Rosenthal.

The recipient of the CRM-SSC prize in Statistics is professor David Haziza of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Université de Montréal. This award recognizes a Canadian or permanent resident of Canada for outstanding research in the Statistical Sciences accomplished during the first fifteen years after earning a doctorate.
 

François Bellavance, Lise Manchester Award 2018

The 2018 Lise Manchester Award is conferred upon Professor François Bellavance of HEC Montréal. This award is given every other year by the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) in commemoration of the late Dr Lise Manchester’s abiding interest in using statistical methods to study matters of relevance to society. The award recognizes excellence in statistical research which considers problems of public interest and which is potentially useful for formation of public policy in Canada.

The 2018 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Geneviève Gauthier, Professor of Statistics in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by a member of the SSC in collaborative research and applied work, the importance of which derives primarily from its relatively recent impact on a subject area outside of the statistical sciences, on an area of application, or on an organization.

Victor Veitch, Lauréat du prix Pierre-Robillard 2018

This prize recognizes the best PhD thesis in probability or statistics defended at a Canadian university in a given year.
 

 

Victor Veitch is the winner of the Pierre Robillard Award of the Statistical Society of Canada. Victor’s thesis, entitled “(Sparse) Exchangeable Random Graphs” was written while he was a doctoral student at the University of Toronto, working under the supervision of Daniel M. Roy.

Andy Leung is the winner of the Pierre Robillard Award of the Statistical Society of Canada. Andy’s thesis, entitled “Robust Estimation and Inference under Cellwise and Casewise Contamination”, was written while he was a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia working under the supervision of Ruben Zamar.

This year’s winner is the article entitled “Probability-scale residuals for continuous, discrete, and censored data.” (Volume 44, no. 4, pp. 463-479) by Bryan E. Shepherd, Chun Li and Qi Liu.
