Vanamamalai Seshadri
Honorary Member
2001

Professor Vanamamalai Seshadri, known to his friends as Sesh, taught at McGill University from 1962 until he retired in 1997, at which time he was made Professor Emeritus. During the time that he was actively teaching at McGill, Professor Seshadri taught courses on a wide range of subjects, teaching about 15 different courses. As with his teaching, the diversity of his research is also striking. His research, covering a wide variety of topics from Brownian motion to balanced incomplete block designs, has appeared in the leading statistical journals. He has been a productive researcher since the early 1950s and was just as active until his retirement as he was in his early years. Professor Seshadri is best known for his work on the inverse Gaussian distribution. During the 1990s he published two monographs in this area, one a Springer-Verlag publication and an earlier one from Oxford Science Publications. All who know him marvel at his unflagging enthusiasm and sharp mind.
