COPSS announced the establishment of two lectureships named after women
The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Sciences announced the establishment of two lectureships named after women: The Elizabeth L. Scott Lecture, and the F.N. David Lecture. The lectures will be given in alternate years at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings beginning in 2019.

The SSC signed onto the letter in support of PRIS to Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló along with 46 other organizations.

Junior researcher writing workshop at JSM
There is a writing workshop for junior researchers at the 2018 Joint Statistical Meetings in Vancouver. Postdocs and junior faculty are encouraged to apply. The SSC is sponsoring the event for the first time this year.
Application Deadline: June 1 (early applicants may receive early notification of acceptance).

The SSC and Canada's Statistics Act
On April 11th, 2017 past president of the SSC Brian Allen spoke in the House of Commons before the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology regarding Bill C-36.
