Honorary Membership Award
Honorary Membership in the SSC is intended to honour a probabilist or a statistician or, in special circumstances another individual, who has made exceptional contributions to the development of the discipline.
Nominations
- Nominations are open to people whose work was done primarily in Canada or who had a major impact in this country.
- Membership in the SSC is not a prerequisite.
- A nomination consists of a recent curriculum vitæ, at least three letters of support, and a suggested citation to accompany the award.
- Nominations are submitted to the Chair of the Awards Committee at sscawards-chair@ssc.ca.

Prof. Agnes M. Herzberg, Honorary Members 2007
The Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) today announced that Professor Agnes M. Herzberg has been named an Honorary Member. Honorary Membership of the SSC is awarded to a statistical scientist of outstanding distinction who has contributed to the development of the statistical sciences in Canada. The formal announcement of this award was made by SSC President Charmaine Dean at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s on the opening day of the 2007 SSC Annual Meeting.
Dr. Ivan P. Fellegi, Honorary Members 2008
Dr. Ivan P. Fellegi, who retired from his position as Chief Statistician of Canada on June 16, is now an Honorary Member of the SSC. Honorary Membership of the SSC is awarded to a statistical scientist of outstanding distinction who has contributed to the development of the statistical sciences in Canada. The formal announcement of this award was made in Ottawa by SSC President Christian Genest on the opening day of the 2008 SSC Annual Meeting.
George Styan, Honorary Member 2009
George P.H. Styan has been named an Honorary Member of the SSC. Honorary Membership of the SSC is awarded to a statistical scientist of outstanding distinction who has contributed to the development of the statistical sciences in Canada.
David R. Brillinger, Honorary Members 2010
David R. Brillinger, Professor of Statistics at the University of California at Berkeley, is now an Honourary Member of the SSC. This nomination, which was announced at the May 2010 Meeting of the Society held in Québec, recognizes Professor Brillinger’s outstanding distinction and his contributions to the development of the statistical sciences in Canada. David was present at the SSC Annual Meeting to receive his Honourary Membership.

James O. Ramsay, Honorary Members 2012
James O. Ramsay, Professor Emeritus at McGill University, has been named an Honorary Member in the Statistical Society of Canada. Honorary Membership in the SSC is granted to statistical scientists of outstanding distinction who have contributed to the development of the discipline in this country. The nomination was announced at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Society in Guelph, Ontario.
Chris Field, Honorary Members 2013
A 2013 recipient of the Honorary Membership of the Statistical Society of Canada is Professor Chris A. Field. This award is intended to honour an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the development of the statistical sciences in Canada and whose work has had a major impact in this country.
