The 2021 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Thérèse Stukel, Senior Scientist at ICES in Toronto and Professor, Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by a member of the SSC in collaborative research and applied work, the importance of which derives primarily from its relatively recent impact on a subject area outside of the statistical sciences, on an area of application, or on an organization.

 

Erica Moodie, CRM-SSC Prize in Statistics 2020

Erica Moodie

The CRM-SSC Prize in Statistics is awarded annually by the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) and the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) in recognition of outstanding research carried out primarily in Canada by a statistician during the first fifteen years after completing a PhD. The 2020 recipient of this prize is Erica Moodie, William Dawson Scholar and Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health at McGill University.

 

Leah Smith, Lise Manchester Award 2020

Leah Smith

The 2020 Lise Manchester Award is conferred upon Leah Smith of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). This award is given every other year by the Statistical Society of Canada to commemorate the late Dr Lise Manchester’s abiding interest in using statistical methods to study matters of relevance to society. The award recognizes excellence in statistical research that helps guide public policy in Canada.

The Canadian Journal of Statistics Award is presented each year by the Statistical Society of Canada to the author(s) of an article published in the journal, in recognition of the outstanding quality of the methodological innovation and presentation. This year’s winner is the article entitled “Doubly sparse regression incorporating graphical structure among predictors”. (Volume 47, no. 4, pp. 729–747) by M. Stephenson, R. A. Ali and G. A. Darlington.

The 2019 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Belkacem Abdous, professor at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Université Laval until 2017 and currently Director of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA), Rabat, Morocco.
