Professor Shklov played a pivotaI role in the early days of what is now the SSC. Indeed, he was the first President (from 1972 to 1974) of the Statistical Sciences Association of Canada, one of the two predecessor societies that merged to form the SSC in 1977. Professor Shklov was, from the start, a strong advocate of the Canadian Journal of Statistics, and served as an Associate Editor from 1973 to 1977. He also was the first to propose and organize a workshop under SSC sponsorship; of course, such workshops are now integral parts of SSC annual meetings.
Professor Shklov retired from the University of Windsor in 1984, after seventeen years on faculty there. Before moving to Windsor, he taught at the University of Toronto for three years, and then at the University of Saskatchewan for fifteen years.
