Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is intended to honour a person who has contributed substantially and over a period of several years to the operation or welfare of the SSC.
Nominations
- A nomination consists of a recent curriculum vitæ, at least two letters of support, and a suggested citation to accompany the award.
- A recipient of the Service Award must be a member of the SSC.
- Nominations are submitted to the Chair of the Awards Committee at sscawards-chair@ssc.ca.
- The SSC values and encourages Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in all of its nominations and awards. Please see the SSC guidelines on implicit bias (pdf).
Prof. Brajendra Sutradhar, Distinguished Service Award 2007
The Statistical Society of Canada has announced that Professor Brajendra Sutradhar has been awarded the 2007 SSC Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to a member of the SSC who has made substantial contributions to the running or welfare of the Society over a period of several years. The formal announcement of this award was made by SSC President Charmaine Dean at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s on the opening day of the 2007 SSC Annual Meeting.
Christian Léger, Distinguished Service Award 2009
The Statistical Society of Canada announced today that Professor Christian Léger has been awarded the 2009 SSC Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to a member of the SSC who has made substantial contributions to the running or welfare of the Society over a period of several years.
Román Viveros-Aguilera, Distinguished Service Award 2012
Román Viveros-Aguilera, a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University, is the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Service Award of the Statistical Society of Canada. The announcement was made at the opening of the Society's Annual Meeting held in Guelph, ON, June 3-6, 2012. The award recognizes a member of the SSC who has made substantial contributions to the running or welfare of the SSC over a period of several years. It rewards devotion and service to statistics in Canada as shown by exceptional service to the SSC.
Nancy Reid, Distinguished Service Award 2013
The Recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Service Award of the Statistical Society of Canada is Professor Nancy Reid. The Distinguished Service Award is intended to honour a person who contributed substantially and over a period of several years to the operation or welfare of the SSC.
Mary Thompson, Distinguished Service Award 2014
Professor Mary Thompson is the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Service Award from the Statistical Society of Canada. This award honours an individual who has played an important and substantial role in fostering growth and success of the Canadian Statistical Sciences community through leadership in the SSC. Mary’s many years of strong and effective leadership have greatly benefited our society and this award is a fitting recognition for her commitment to our discipline and profession.
Shirley Mills, Distinguished Service Award 2015
Professor Shirley Mills is the recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC). This award honors an individual who has played an important and substantial role in fostering the growth and success of the Canadian Statistical Sciences community through leadership in the SSC.
