The Canada Wide Science Fair (https://youthscience.ca/science-fairs/cwsf/ottawa-2021/) was held virtually this year during May 17–21 in Ottawa. The statistics education committee sponsored two awards. The intermediate award winner was Aarushi Bhargava. Aarushi was a Grade 10 student at Renert School in Calgary. The title of Aarushi's presentation was "The Effect of Weather on Solar Electricity Generation." The senior award winner was Allison Engo. Allison was a Grade 12 student at Collège Marianopolis in Montreal. The title of Allison's presentation was "Saved on the Fly." Both Aarushi and Allison have uploaded video presentations on YouTube about their projects. Allison has prepared videos in both official languages.
A big thank you to statistics education committee members who agreed to serve as judges. They are Harsha Perera (SFU), Bingrui (Cindy) Sun (Univesity of Calgary) and Wei Xu (University of Toronto). All three judges were deeply impressed by the quality of projects eligible for SSC awards. Students used sophisticated methods such as experimental design and machine learning.
