Assistant or Associate Professors in Data Science

The Department of Statistics invites applications for three full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level, commencing January 1, 2024, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Exceptional candidates at the Associate professor level will also be considered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The department seeks emerging scholars with experience in statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or any field related to data science. Outstanding candidates with research interests and/or contributions in any area relevant to data science will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the department's strengths in data science. The successful candidates must have completed a PhD in statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or any related field with distinguishing attributes grounded in data science at the start date of the appointment, and show a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research.
The ideal candidate will bring or support new synergies within and potentially outside the department. People with experience in statistical or machine learning, computational statistics, high dimensional data analysis, artificial intelligence or data mining are especially invited to apply. Experience in areas of applications such as environmental statistics, biostatistics, spatial statistics, bioinformatics and postdoctoral experience including the use of statistical/data science methodologies in other areas of research would also be considered an asset.
Duties will include undergraduate teaching and supervision, graduate teaching and supervision, research, including establishing and maintaining an externally funded research program, and service-related activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications; will either have, or demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program; will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for
outstanding teaching contributions; and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

The department currently has 13 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members and five Instructors and offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in statistics. The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) Prairies Regional Centre is also housed within the department.
