The 49th Annual Meeting of the Statistical Society of Canada (and its 2nd virtual meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic) took place May 30–June 3, 2022. Conference materials are still available to conference registrants on Pathable but only until the end of February 2023 since Pathable is being discontinued. If someone wishes to catch a missed talk or review a talk, provided the moderator recorded the session, it is possible to do so using your SSC 2022 conference registration login. There are recordings for most sessions (except posters, case studies, and some social events). There were over 90 sessions, over 300 talks: in total 496 “meetings” divided into 59 invited sessions, 32 contributed sessions, 4 panels, 8 poster presentations, 2 case study sessions involving 21 presentations, 2 plenary talks (a presidential invited and 1 gold medal talk), 4 award talks, 10 job fair sessions, 9 “social” sessions (including 50th anniversary, SARGC, new investigators, accreditation, ICSA-Canada Chapter, CANSSI, NSERC, section and alumni socials). The virtual Job Fair involved 5 employers with 16 recruiters in all.

Being virtual, we were able to determine some notable highlights from SSC 2022:

• Users by continent were: South America = 0; North America = 683; European Union = 25; Asia = 8; Australia = 0; Africa = 1; Unknown = 29
• Final registration numbers: 696 (354 regular, 54 recent grads, 265 students, 23 associate/retired)
• 437 presenters; 117 moderators
• The conference site had over 56,000 pageviews and still counting
• The Job Fair attracted 884 pageviews and over 100 interactions
• Percentage of users who watched a session entirely = 84.12%
• Average no. of sessions added to My Agenda = 9.28
• Average no. of sessions attended by each user = 5.25
• Users who went to 1+ exhibitor page = 103
• Average no. of exhibitor page visits per person = 4.40
• Attended in 1+ "Small Group Video Meeting" = 558 • Added 1+ session to My Agenda = 623

The host platform Pathable permitted people to contact each other if they wished, permitted several social events, and allowed for targeted messages to individuals and groups. It also permitted recording of sessions and thereby access to sessions by registrants for several months after the conference. It also facilitated distribution of a bilingual EDI survey to all registrants and collection of results for SSC future use.

EDI survey for SSC 2022

The EDI survey was a collaboration between SSC and CANSSI and was conducted as part of sponsorship agreements and to inform SSC operations. CANSSI contributed 20 $25 Amazon gift certificates as incentives to complete the survey, which closed on June 19. There were 303 responses, with 134 people entering the draw.
