About the University and Conference location

The University of Manitoba, western Canada's first university, was founded in 1877.  It is located in Winnipeg, in the heart of the country, and is home to over 30,000 students and 8,900 faculty and staff. It is by far the region’s largest university and plays a key role in the social, cultural, and economic well-being of its community and the world.

The Department of Statistics at the University of Manitoba, which is hosting the Annual Meeting of the Society, has consistently grown over the last ten years. It currently has 17 faculty members and is projected to continue to grow in the near future. The Department was created in 1967 and is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year! Alumni and former members of the Department are invited to attend the special events organized in celebration of this important Anniversary.

The Conference will be held on the Fort Garry Campus - the University's main campus - established in 1912. Specifically, the Conference will take place in University Centre (UC; for plenary sessions and special events) and in the Engineering and Information Technology Complex (EITC; for regular sessions), home to some of the best teaching and research facilities on Campus, which was officially opened in 2005.

Following established tradition, the Conference will open with a reception on Sunday Evening in Marshall McLuhan Hall, located in University Centre. With Mother Nature's cooperation, we should have access to a fantastic flower-surrounded terrace during the event!
