Tenure Track Position - in Actuarial Science

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Actuarial Science at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to commence September 1, 2020 (flexible). Any areas of expertise will be considered, but areas of particular interest are: property and casualty (P&C) insurance, and predictive analytics.    

 

Candidates must have a PhD in Actuarial Science or a closely related field, outstanding research record or potential, and evidence of excellence in teaching. We encourage applications from candidates who will engage in collaboration with other scientists who have data and/or work in related research areas. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are credentialed members—Associate or Fellow—of an actuarial professional organisation such as the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA), the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

The primary responsibilities of the position include developing and maintaining an active, externally funded research program; teaching a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in actuarial science; and participating in departmental, university, and professional service. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise students in our Actuarial Science Masters’ program and in the Department’s PhD program in Statistics with concentration in Actuarial Science.

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science is comprised of 18 continuing faculty members in Statistics, and five in Actuarial Science. The department is recognized internationally for its academic excellence and is the new permanent home of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI). Simon Fraser University is recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the SOA and has been a fully accredited program since the implementation of the University Accreditation Program by the CIA.
