"Regression Model Selection via Log-Likelihood Ratio and Constrained Minimum Criterion"

The Canadian Journal of Statistics Award is awarded annually by the SSC to the author(s) of an article published in the previous year in the journal, in recognition of the outstanding quality of the paper's methodological innovation and presentation.

Min Tsao is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Victoria. He obtained his PhD degree from Simon Fraser University in 1995, under the supervision of Dr. Rick Routledge. His research interests include saddlepoint approximation, empirical likelihood, group effects in linear models, model/variable selection, and applied statistics.

Citation Accompanying the Award / Criteria / Award Delivery

The article entitled "Regression Model Selection via Log-Likelihood Ratio and Constrained Minimum Criterion" by Min Tsao is recognized for its excellent presentation of an impressive methodological development in regression model selection.

This article explores regression model selection using a log-likelihood ratio-based approach, where the likelihood ratio test evaluates the plausibility of different models. The proposed method offers notable advantages, including excellent accuracy and adaptability to varying sample sizes, which are clearly demonstrated in the paper.
