The Department of Statistics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) - Tier II, in the area of Statistical Genomics. This will be a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is subject to final budgetary approval, and the individual selected will be subject to review and final approval by the CRC secretariat. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2012, provided CRC approval is obtained before then. Information about the CRC program can be found at http://www.chairs.gc.ca/.

A PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field is required. Applicants should demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in teaching and research.
 
The Department of Statistics maintains a broad range of research and teaching programs across the statistical sciences. Vancouver is home to a large, active, and highly collaborative genomics community. At UBC, relevant units include the Michael Smith Laboratories, the Centre for High Throughput Biology, the Life Science Institute, the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, and iCapture. Within the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA) there is also the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre and the Terry Fox Laboratory. Many large scale projects that capitalize on the resources at UBC, BCCA and beyond are supported by Genome British Columbia. Therefore the chair holder will have excellent opportunities to develop and apply statistical methodology in close collaboration with world class genome scientists.
