Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Statistical Genetics - Briollais' lab

Position Summary:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health System. The successful candidate will join the statistical genetic research group led by Dr. Laurent Briollais in the Prosserman Centre for Population Health Research (http://www.lunenfeld.ca/about-us/expertise) within the Sinai Health System.

The research focus involves developing and extending survival and joint models to incorporate disease interventions that impact genetic risks in families who harbour major cancer-causing genes (e.g. Hereditary Breast and Ovarian families). The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for developing aspects of the model theory, applying the model to on-going cancer projects and creating user-friendly statistical program codes. Preparation of manuscripts and presentations are also expected.

This Post-Doctoral Fellowship will be located at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in downtown Toronto, ON. Primary supervision will be offered by Dr. Laurent Briollais, with additional supervision provided by Dr. Yun-Hee Choi (Western University, London, ON) and Dr. Lajmi Lakhal-Chaieb (Laval University, Quebec City, QC).  The well-established statistical genetics research community in Toronto is extensive, active and collaborative. Substantial interaction with several affiliated investigators, students and other trainees in Toronto occurs in the weekly journal club meetings, numerous ongoing collaborations and frequent visiting scientists.  This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to develop a research strength in statistical genetics.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should have a PhD in statistics or biostatistics (within past 2 years) with these skills: Extensive background in survival data methods or joint modeling; Strong programming skills, especially in the R language or machine languages like C++ or FORTRAN; Human genetics knowledge will be an asset but can be acquired in this position. Keen interest in medical research applications is an advantage.

Institute:

The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI) of Sinai Health System is one of the Canada’s leading biomedical research institutes offering a stimulating research environment.  In LTRI, the Prosserman Centre for Population Health Research includes a group of multi-disciplinary scientists who are specialized in quantitative research of complex diseases, particularly in the field of population genetics.  Partnering with Dalla Lana School of Public Health and University of Toronto, Prosserman Centre for Population Health Research is the hub of an active research community of genomic epidemiology and statistical methodology with regular seminar series and journal club.

How to Apply:

Applications – comprised of a current CV (including publications, graduate courses taken), research statement and contact information for at least two referees - should be sent to Dr. Laurent Briollais (laurent@lunenfeld.ca). The position is available immediately and applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.  This PDF position is funded by a CIHR operating grant, with initial funding for one year and up to an additional year based on acceptable performance. Benefits as well as funding to attend and present at scientific conferences is also provided.
