Tenure-track professor in Financial Engineering

The Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position in financial engineering, beginning June 1, 2026. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal (in French) offers a stimulating environment with 27 professors, 5 full-time lecturers, 11 postdoctoral fellows and 36 PhD students. Department faculty conduct research in Financial Engineering, Machine Learning, Statistics and Operations Research. They are members of internationally recognized research centers such as GERAD (Group for Research in Decision Analysis), CRM (Centre de Recherches Mathématiques), Mila (Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute) and CIRRELT (Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation). They
also contribute to the mission of IVADO (Institute for Data-driven Value Creation) and benefit from its various funding and transfer opportunities.

HEC Montréal is a world-class business school. The School offers undergraduate programs as well as graduate degrees: MBA, EMBA, MSc and PhD. Courses are mainly taught in French but also in English and Spanish. The MSc program offers several specializations including: Data Science and Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Financial Engineering. The PhD program is offered jointly with McGill University, Concordia University and UQAM, and includes specializations in Data Science, Financial Engineering, and Management Science.

Qualifications – Candidates must:

  •  Have completed or nearly completed a PhD in Mathematical finance or in a related field associated to Decision Sciences and/or Finance.
  • Have a strong publication record in mathematical finance and / or outstanding research potential. 
  • Show an aptitude to supervise students at the MSc and PhD levels, and a desire to engage in one
    or more of our research groups.
  • Show excellent potential in teaching with demonstrated communication skills.


The main language of instruction at HEC Montréal is French, and some courses and programs are offered in English. Proficiency in English is required to teach courses in this language, to communicate with non-French-speaking students, and to carry out certain research activities. The person must be able to teach and work in French after 2 years in the position. Substantial support will be provided by HEC Montréal to help achieve this objective, in an environment conducive to improving French language skills. It is strongly recommended to mention any prior knowledge of French in your application file. The application file must be submitted online as a single PDF document and must include :

  • A copy of the PhD diploma or highest-level university diploma.
