The Canada-Wide Science Fair 2024 took place from May 26 to May 31 at Carleton University, Ottawa. The Statistical Society of Canada contributes two awards which are given to two outstanding projects in statistical theory or that make use of sound statistical techniques in experimental or observational design, data collection, analysis, and data presentation. The winner of the intermediate award ($750) was Nico Pacifici (Bay Area, ON) for his project titled “The PreStep: A Mobile Health Platform to Detect Ventricular Cardiomyopathy in Athletes Using AI.” The winner of the senior award ($1000) was Angela Cao (Greater Vancouver, BC) for her project titled “S2S: AI-Powered Translation Between Sign and Spoken Languages.” The awards were presented to the winners by Ahmed Almaskut, a member of the Statistical Society of Canada statistics education committee.
