The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary is delighted to welcome Haixu Wang, who was appointed as an assistant professor (tenure-track) on July 1, 2023. Haixu moved to Calgary to begin his new position after successfully defending his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Professor Jiguo Cao from Simon Fraser University. His thesis titled, “Machine Learning in Functional Data Analysis,” appropriately captures his research interests in designing and applying machine learning methodologies for functional data.
