This year has been a tumultuous outlier in many respects for Canada and the entire world. Upon taking on the mantle of Liaison editor and learning about the many facets of the SSC, I am filled with optimism for the year to come. In this final 2020 issue of Liaison, we see how statisticians across the country are using their expertise to understand and combat the pandemic. Meanwhile, life continues in some ways just as it had before with 10 of our colleagues achieving the designation of associate or professional statistician. Though our annual 2021 meeting will proceed virtually, this opens new avenues of creativity for the New Investigator Presentation Award contestants and for all conference participants. And with other initiatives like CANSSI's National Seminar Series, one starts to notice how closely connected we all are to one another.
