The 50th Annual Meeting of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC 2023) will be held at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, from Monday, May 29 to Wednesday, May 31, 2023. As in the last few years, just before the annual meeting, on Saturday, May 27, the Canadian Statistics Students Conference will take place, and on Sunday, May 28 will be the workshops and opening reception of the SSC 2023 meeting. It should be noted that the early bird registration rate deadline for SSC 2023 is April 16, 2023; from April 17–May 27, 2023, the registration rate will increase to the regular rate and as of May 28 the onsite rate applies. Please see https://ssc.ca/en/meetings/annual/2023-ssc-annualmeeting-ottawa/registration-information/registration-fees-2023 for rates. Be sure to book travel and accommodation early (see https://ssc.ca/en/meetings/annual/2023-ssc-annual-meeting-ottawa) since May 27–28 is Ottawa Race Weekend when 50,000 participants flood Ottawa streets!
As the conference is in about two months, the SSC 2023 local arrangements co-chairs, Shirley Mills and Yiqiang Q. Zhao of Carleton University and the program chair, Sévérien Nkurunziza of the University of Windsor are looking forward to welcoming all individuals to the campus of Carleton University. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all SSC members and colleagues who submitted invited and contributed sessions.
During SSC 2023 there will be a job fair from May 29–31. Job seekers participate for free; employers may participate in person or virtually—the format is left to the option of the employer. Contact ssc2023@ssc.ca for more details. NOTE: There is an embargo on applicants contacting employers prior to the meeting.
Sponsorship packages are now available for SSC 2023. Contact ssc2023@ssc.ca before April 30 for details on how you can advertise your organization, programs, publications, or employment opportunities to a wide range of statistical scientists.
The full program will be available shortly at https://ssc.ca/en/meetings/annual/2023-ssc-annual-meeting-ottawa. The following is an overview of invited addresses and committee- and section-sponsored invited sessions.
The first plenary session starts Monday morning with the presidential invited address, this year by Pierre Del Moral whose talk is entitled “Quelques aspects théoriques des filtres à particules et des filtres de Kalman d'ensemble.” The 2022 SSC Gold Medal winner, David A. Stephens, whose talk is entitled “What makes a 'Bayesian' analysis Bayesian?” is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Other invited addresses are: SSC 2022 Impact Award address, by Lehana Thabane, Isobel Loutit invited address, by Derek Bingham, and Survey Methods—presidential invited address session, by Mike Brick.
