The Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) offers two levels of accreditation, the Professional Statistician (P.Stat.) and the Associate Statistician (A.Stat.). These qualifications are intended to indicate to the broader statistical and non-statistical communities that the holder has achieved a certain level of professional competence in the understanding and application of statistical methods, and maintains a level of ethical practice.
The following individuals have been approved as Associate Statisticians in December 2020
Phillipe Niles
Phillipe Niles has two honours degrees from the University of Ottawa, the first in physics-mathematics and the second comprised of a major in statistics and a minor in computer science, graduating magna cum laude. He has conducted research in the fields of biophysics, photonics, and cryptography, and will be completing the MActSc program at the University of Waterloo this coming year. Phillipe plans to continue studying statistics and pursuing a career closely related to statistics in the coming years.
Kai Yang
Kai Yang is a PhD student in biostatistics at McGill University. Prior to that, he completed an MSc in Statistics at McMaster University in 2017. Kai also finished a BSc Honours in Mathematics and Statistics with a statistics specialization from McMaster University in 2016.
Mohsen Soltanifar
Mohsen Soltanifar completed his PhD in Biostatistics at the University of Toronto focusing on brain reaction times in 2019. Prior to that, he completed an MSc in Biostatistics and Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan in 2014 studying early childhood development. Mohsen also completed an MSc in Mathematics at the University of Saskatchewan in 2011 with a focus in free probability theory.
Kevonn Morgan
Kevonn Morgan is a statistician at Labstat International ULC in Kitchener, ON. He completed a Statistics Co-op Honours degree with an actuarial science minor and economics minor from the University of Waterloo in 2016.

Alejandro Gonzalez-Delgado
Alejandro Gonzalez-Delgado is a professional with 10+ years of experience in the field of statistics. He holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Cienfuegos and currently works as a biostatistician at Health Canada, where he is responsible for designing and conducting statistical analyses using national survey data to provide strong evidence to support national policies and programs.
Faisal Khamis
Faisal G. Khamis joined the University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College in 2019. He is an associate professor of statistics and has been a professional educator for 27 years, during which he has engaged in teaching, research, and university and community service. Dr. Khamis is a graduate of Baghdad University where he received his BSc and MSc degrees in statistics in 1992 and 1995 respectively. He received his PhD in Statistics from the National University of Malaysia in 2008. In 2019, he obtained the certificate from the Internationally-Trained Professional Co-op Education Program at Brian J. Fleming Learning Centre, Canada.
Mahmoud Torabi
Mahmoud Torabi is a professor of biostatistics in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Statistics and a scientist in the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) at the University of Manitoba. His main research areas are spatial statistics and small area estimation. He has served the Statistical Society of Canada in various capacities including president of the Survey Methods Section.
Anita Lloyd
Anita Lloyd is a research associate with the Kidney Health Research Group at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She has worked with the group since 2007. Her main roles include analyzing health data, assisting with preparation of manuscripts for publication, and performing systematic reviews. She received her A.Stat. accreditation in 2010.
Song (Sebastian) Li
Song (Sebastian) Li is a scientist trained in statistics and economics and is an experienced business leader in data-driven decision making, data science and machine learning in e-commerce and clinical psychology, and led cloud technology and data engineering transformations at Amazon, CIBC, and BMO.
David Bellhouse
David Belhouse is a professor emeritus at the University of Western Ontario. He received his PhD from the University of Waterloo in 1975 in survey sampling. His research interests include survey sampling design and estimation, analysis of complex survey data, and the history of probability, statistics and actuarial science.
