Abstract
In this talk, we would like to introduce a new tool: "Instructor Self-Assessment for Racial Equity and Belonging". This was developed in 2018 by Dr. Ann Curry-Stevens with her colleagues in the Faculty of Social Work at Laurier to fill the gaps that many of their educators were not equipped to integrate equity, belonging and decolonization into their teaching. Now, we have formed a research team including researchers from three faculties (Science, Social Work, and Human and Social Science). The research study aims to assess the value of the Tool as resource to guide teaching towards equity, culturally responsive teaching, and decolonization. So far, the research team has hosted workshops, focused groups, EDII speaker series, as well as presented the research results at national and international conferences and submitted to peer review journals. In this talk, we will share the Tool's details and the discoveries from our research.
