Keynote Address

Dr. Grace Y. Yi
We’re pleased to announce a keynote address given by Dr. Grace Y. Yi, a professor and Tier I Canada Research Chair in Data Science at the University of Western Ontario. Professor Yi received the 2025 Gold Medalist of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC), she is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute.  She received the Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Mentoring from the University of Western Ontario (2023), and delivered the Myra Samuels Memorial Lecture at Purdue University (2025). In 2000, she received her PhD in Statistics from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on developing methodology to address challenges around the areas of Data Science, public health, epidemiological studies, and social sciences. Her most recent research involves investigating machine learning and statistical methods to address problems concerning imaging data, missing data, measurement error in variables, high dimensional data, survival data, and longitudinal data.

Scientific Workshop

Dr. Kuan Liu
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop during the conference, led by Dr. Kuan Liu. Dr. Kuan Liu is a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Causal Methods for Health Research and an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation at the University of Toronto. She holds a BSc Honours in Statistics from the University of Alberta (2011), an MMath in Statistics-Biostatistics from the University of Waterloo (2012), and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Toronto (2021). Dr. Liu specializes in advanced statistical methods for causal inference, Bayesian analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and latent variable modelling. Supported by NSERC and CIHR, her work targets the development of novel statistical methodologies motivated by applications in clinical and public health research.

Career Panel

As part of CSSC 2026, participants will have the opportunity to attend a career session with the following panelists:

Dr. Anna Heath, Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto, an Associate Professor in the Division of Biostatistics at University of Toronto and Honorary Research Fellow at University College London, UK.

Dr. David Earn, Professor of Mathematics and the Faculty of Science Research Chair in Mathematical Epidemiology at McMaster University.

Dr. Ben Bolker, biostatistician and theoretical/quantitative population biologist in the departments of Mathematics & Statistics and Biology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Social

As part of CSSC 2026, we will have social breaks between events and a networking lunch to engage with other students, invited speakers, and conference sponsors. At the end of the day, we will host a social event to conclude the conference.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded in undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD levels for each of the following:

   - Best Posters (Virtual) of the CSSC
   - Best Posters (In-person) of the CSSC
   - Best Oral Presentations (In-person) of the CSSC

We also plan to distribute several Travel Awards to oral and poster presenters. The number of travel awards will depend on available funding.

Registration Instructions

  1. Create an account or log in here.
  2. Register for the 2026 CSSC here. The registration deadline is Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Presentation Guidelines

Oral Presentation: Accompanied by a slide deck, students will present their research topic through a 12-minute in-person oral presentation, which will be followed by a 3-minute question period. There are a limited number of spots available for Oral Presentations, which will be distributed to participants based on the quality of the abstract that they submitted.

Poster Presentation: Accompanied by a printed version of a poster illustrating the methods and outcomes of their research, students will answer questions and partake in discussions with conference attendees in one-on-one or small group formats. The poster session will be in-person, last roughly one hour, and does not overlap with any other planned programming for CSSC 2026. There may be a limited number of spots available for Poster Presentations due to physical limitations. As such, spots will be distributed to participants based on the quality of the abstract that they submitted.
