The 2027 Annual Meeting of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) will be held at Université Laval in Québec City, Québec, from May 30 to June 2, 2027.

The SSC 2027 Program Committee is pleased to invite proposals for general invited sessions.

An invited session consists of a series of oral presentations or a panel discussion. Sessions are 90 minutes long and typically take one of the following formats:

  • three invited speakers, each giving a 30-minute presentation;
  • two invited speakers plus one discussant; or
  • a panel discussion with 3–5 panelists.

Topics may be drawn from any area of statistics, probability, actuarial science, or related disciplines. We particularly encourage proposals that bring together multiple research areas, explore emerging research, practice, or educational opportunities, critically examine recent developments or new ideas, or highlight interdisciplinary collaborations.

Submission of Proposals
Proposals may be submitted from July 24, 2026, through September 15, 2026, at 23:59 Eastern Time (ET).

Each proposal should include:

  • the session title;
  • the name(s) of the organizer(s) and session chair;
  • a brief description of the session and its rationale;
  • the names, affiliations, and email addresses of all presenters; and
  • the title of each presentation.

Please submit your proposal through the SSC website by following these steps:
Step 1. Go to ssc.ca and log in using your SSC username and password.
Step 2. Click My Sessions, then select Add a New Session.
Step 3. Complete the submission form and click Save.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
Organizers are strongly encouraged to consider EDI principles when selecting speakers and panelists. Our meetings benefit from the wide range of perspectives and experiences represented within our community. We encourage organizers to ensure that their sessions reflect the breadth of the Society, including early career researchers and members of equity-deserving groups, including women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities/racialized groups, and members of LGBTQIA2S+ communities.

Additional Rules for Invited Sessions

  1. All invited speakers, panelists, and discussants must register for the conference before the abstract submission deadline in early 2027.
  2. Invited speakers must submit an abstract during the abstract submission period (anticipated to be in early 2027).
  3. Panelists in invited panel discussions and discussants in invited sessions must register for the conference but are not required to submit an abstract. For invited panel discussions, a single abstract will be created using the session description, and all panelists will be listed as co-authors in the order provided.
  4. The chair of an invited session should not also be a speaker but may serve as a panelist.
  5. An individual may organize only one invited session proposal.
  6. Invited speakers who do not submit abstracts, or panelists or chairs who do not register for the conference, may be removed from the program. Consequently, the corresponding session may be cancelled.
  7. It is the responsibility of the session organizer to ensure that all participants register for the conference and, where applicable, submit their abstracts by the required deadlines.
  8. Each participant may give only one presentation at the Annual Meeting. This may be an invited talk, a contributed oral presentation, or a contributed poster presentation. A participant may additionally serve as a session organizer, chair, discussant, or panelist in another session.

Please note that SSC travel support is not available for invited speakers participating in general invited sessions. Organizers are encouraged to ensure that invited speakers have appropriate funding to attend the meeting.

Selection Process
Space in the program for invited sessions is limited, and consequently not all excellent proposals can be accommodated. All proposals will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Final selections will be based on:

  • scientific merit;
  • the overall balance and diversity of the program; and
  • consideration of EDI principles.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by mid-October 2026.

To facilitate early planning, accepted invited sessions and confirmed speakers may be announced on the SSC website before the complete conference schedule is available.

Section-sponsored Invited Sessions
In addition to this general call, each SSC Section may organize up to four Section-sponsored invited sessions through its own selection process.
