Increasing the Funding Level of your Research Program: Options Through Industrial Partnerships
A large proportion of the research programs of Canadian academic statisticians could easily lead to collaborative work with partners in the private industry. Surprisingly, very few statisticians seem to take advantage of such possibilities. In this talk I will give an overview of the various options that are available to academic researchers who would be interested to get involved in research partnerships. Through real examples, I will show that there exist several interesting options, from the very small short-term project that only involves one undergraduate student and a small amount of money to the major long-term collaboration that involves a team of professors, PhD's and postdocs and a major financial commitment from the industrial partner(s). The objective of this talk is to convince the auditors that research collaboration with the industry is likely within their reach and that this could constitute a good way to significantly increase their capacity to attract and fund HQP.
