Employment and Social Development Canada has implemented over 15 trials using rigorous research designs in order to measure the impact of behaviourally informed messaging since 2015. These efforts are led by a small team which provide support to team across the department in the form of behavioural insights, trial design and analysis. We will discuss a number of lessons learned including but not limited to adapting trial design to fit within operational constraints, navigating the use of administrative data for analytical purposes, learning how best to ensure trial integrity over long periods of data collection and building support for experimentation in a large organizations.
