The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta at 632 Central Academic, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2G1 invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Statistics. Appointment at a higher level may be possible under exceptional circumstances. We offer an excellent research environment with a normal teaching load of 2.5 courses per year.

The successful candidate will establish his/her own research program, supervise graduate students, and teach Statistics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants will have a PhD or international equivalent, demonstrated accomplishments and outstanding promise in research as well as a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. A close interdisciplinary fit with some of the research being presently conducted at the University of Alberta is an asset. Such interdisciplinary areas include Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Environmetrics, Engineering, Business, and Statistical Machine Learning.

The University of Alberta has one of the leading joint Mathematics/Statistics departments in Canada and has strong connections with other scientific institutes, such as the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI), and the Banff International Research Station (BIRS).
