Mission: For the International Year of Statistics, promote Statistics to a public who is not regularly exposed to it. For instance, contact your local school (primary, high school or college) and arrange to meet groups of students to talk about statistics. Prepare an inspiring talk to help the youth realize and understand that statistics improves their everyday life!

Reward: One iPad (approximate value of 500$) will be drawn among all members of the SSC who register their event. The probability of winning increases with the number of talks presented.

Registration: To register your talk, follow the instructions below and provide the required information, including a proof that your activity was held or the contact information of a resource person from the organization where you presented that will be able to confirm it.

The draw will take place in January 2014.

Rules of the contest:

• Everyone is invited to talk about statistics, but not everyone is eligible for the prize. This is not a public contest.
• To be eligible for the prize, you must be a member of the SSC for the year 2013 (information about membership).
• You must also organize an activity promoting or popularizing Statistics for an outsiders audience. For instance, presenting a talk or leading a discussion about statistics (minimum 15 minutes) with a group of students at your local school is an eligible activity, except if the audience studies in a statistics program.
• Events with groups of which you are the teacher are not eligible for the contest.
• The organization committee reserves itself the right to determine if an activity is eligible or not. The decision cannot be appealed. You may however check with us prior to your event.
• To enter the contest, send the details of your event by email at ssc.ipad.2013@gmail.com. You must specify your name, affiliation, address, email and phone number. Describe briefly your event, including its date, time and location. You must also provide a proof that your event took place. For instance, you may provide the contact information of a resource person in the organization where you presented who can confirm that it took place. If any of the required information is missing, your participation to the draw may be void.
• We will confirm the reception and eligibility of all submissions within a reasonnable delay.
• To be eligible to the draw, your event has to take place in 2013, at the latest on December 31st, 2013.
• Entries must be submitted before December 31st 11:59PM (east time).
• Each event (talk or discussions) gives one chance of winning, with a maximum of 10 ballots per person (you may do more talks, but your chances of winning will not increase further).
• A random draw will take place in January 2014 to determine the winner of one (1) iPad (current model - approximate value of 500$).
• If the winner provided the contact information of a resource person as the proof that their event took place, but that it is impossible for us to obtain an acceptable confirmation, the winner will be disqualified and a new winner will be selected.
• The prize will be shipped directly to the winner's address (in Canada). The name of the winner will be posted on this webpage at the end of the contest.
