Two Group Tests of Hypotheses for Umbrella Alternatives
We propose a general method for constructing nonparametric tests of hypotheses for umbrella alternatives when two groups are involved. Such alternatives arise in situations where the treatment effect changes in direction after reaching a peak. Our class of tests is based on the ranks of the observations. The general approach consists of defining two sets of rankings: the first is induced by the alternative and the other by the data itself. The test statistic favors the alternative whenever the distance between these two sets is small. The asymptotic distributions are determined for some special cases of distances under both the null and the alternative hypothesis when the location of the peak is known or unknown. A limited simulation study shows that the tests have good power.
Tests d'hypothèses à deux groupes pour alternatives globales
Nous proposons une méthode générale pour la construction de tests non paramétriques d'hypothèses pour des alternatives globales lorsque deux groupes sont impliqués. De telles alternatives surviennent dans des situations où l'effet du traitement change de direction après avoir atteint un pic. Notre classe de tests est basée sur les rangs des observations. L'approche générale consiste à définir deux ensembles de notations : le premier est induit par l'alternative et l'autre par les données elles-mêmes. La statistique de test favorise l'alternative lorsque la distance entre les deux ensembles est faible. Nous déterminons les distributions asymptotiques pour certains cas particuliers de distances sous l'hypothèse nulle et l'hypothèse alternative lorsque l'emplacement du pic est connu ou inconnu. Nous montrons la puissance des tests via une étude de simulation limitée.
