Associate or Assistant Professor in Environmetrics

The Faculty of Science at Western University is pleased to announce a search for a tenured or probationary Associate Professor, or tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmetrics. The rank will be commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications and experience. The starting date will be July 1, 2015. The position is a joint appointment to the Department of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences and the Department of Biology. The position is expected to build on strengths at Western in the development of models and analytical tools for the study of patterns and processes in environmental sciences.

As an important part of their duties at Western, the successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in the Master's in Management of Applied Science (MMASc) Program (http://www.uwo.ca/professionalmasters/science/) on behalf of the Faculty of Science in addition to teaching a course within this program. The MMASc is a new professional science MSc program at Western that provides an interdisciplinary one-year experience aimed at preparation for a successful career in industry. Students enroll in scientific discipline-specific courses in Biology, Statistics, and Biochemistry in parallel with core courses in Management and Communication. A co-op placement in an industrial setting completes the MMASc experience. Applicants with demonstrated involvement, in professional and leadership programs will be preferred.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding and innovative researcher whose accomplishments are recognized globally for having made a major impact in their field and who is recognized internationally as an emerging leader as evidenced by recognition in influential publications in top tier international journals. Proven success in attracting high levels of external funding, in particular through multidisciplinary team-based projects, is essential. An excellent communicator, the successful candidate will also have a superior record of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, developing timely graduate and undergraduate courses and providing leadership in research, interdisciplinary scholarship, as well as increasing knowledge mobilization and societal benefits.

The Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences (http://www.stats.uwo.ca) offers an exceptional environment for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and training in statistics and its applications. It has undergraduate and graduate programs in financial modelling, actuarial science and statistics supported by 24 faculty members. The Department is actively involved in a collaborative professional Masters in Financial Economics program jointly offered with Economics, Law, and Business. It also mounts a Collaborative Program in Biostatistics together with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatics in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Department of Biology (http://www.uwo.ca/biology) is a vibrant community of 47 full-time faculty and instructors, 30 support staff, approximately 180 graduate students and 16 post-doctoral fellows. Research in the department of Biology ranges from sub-cellular to ecosystem processes and uses both theoretical and experimental approaches.
