A Biostatistician position in the Biostatistics Group is available at the Canadian VIGOUR Centre.  The Canadian VIGOUR Centre (CVC) is an academic research organization (ARO) located on the University of Alberta campus. The CVC specializes in managing clinical trials of cardiovascular therapies from study design through to manuscript publication.
 
The successful candidate will participate in clinical and population-based research in cardiovascular health and medicine and engage in related methodological research.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Drafts statistical analysis plans and statistical sections for study synopses, protocols and grants, and performs and interprets basic and advanced analyses with minimal guidance
  • Documents analyses, creates summaries, and presents results in written and verbal form to the research team with minimal guidance
  • Designs analysis database specifications and provides input on those prepared by data managers and junior statisticians
  • Presents information on topics relevant to statistics and statistical operations at internal statistics meetings
Qualifications:
 
  • Masters degree in (bio)statistics or related field and four years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in programming and analysis using major statistical packages (such as SAS and/or R); familiarity with data management is an asset
  • Experience with statistical methods commonly used in health research (e.g., survival analyses, logistic regression, prognostic model development and validation, competing risks/multi-state modeling, propensity score and inverse probability weighting, and multi-level modeling)
  • Fluency in writing SAS and/or R code, identifying and correcting errors, and validating output and results are key as would experience in reviewing code programmed by others to ensure quality
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a research team
  • A solid written and verbal command of the English language
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills
In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has an initial appointment of one year with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package and annual salary range of $52,166 to $65,214 commensurate with experience and subject to the University Furlough Levy.
