Update from statistics education committee

cwsf

This year's Canada-Wide Youth Science Fair (CWYSF) was held on May 18, 2022. Two members from the statistics education committee served as judges during CWYSF. They were Bingrui (Cindy) Sun (University of Calgary) and Melody Ghahramani (University of Winnipeg). Every year, the SSC sponsors an intermediate award and a senior award at CWYSF. This year's award winners were Elizabeth Chen (intermediate award) from Edmonton and Oumaima Malih (senior award) from Laval. Elizabeth's project was "Design Parameters for CAT-T Cell Therapy using RNA Sequencing Analysis." Oumaima's project was "Réglisse et la durée de vie." You can read about Oumaima's project here: https://projectboard.world/ysc/project/88309.

In other news, the statistics education committee plans to run the Canadian edition of the International Statistical Literacy Poster (ISLP) competition this year. The ISLP competition is an initiative of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). The competition is open to students in Grades 9–12 and bachelor's level students. Top posters will then be forwarded to compete internationally. Winners will be announced at the 64th ISI World Statistics Congress held in Ottawa in summer of 2023.
