Defence Scientist-Operational Research Analyst

Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC), a Science and Technology agency of the Department of National Defence, is respected internationally for the quality of its R&D and decision support, and has a long history of excellence in scientific research, contributing to the success and safety of Canadian military operations at home and abroad. The agency is made up of nine research centres located across Canada.

We are currently recruiting qualified individuals as Defence Scientists (DS) to work in the Centre for Operational Research and Analysis (CORA) in Ottawa, Ontario and at our field station in Victoria, British Columbia. As a DRDC research Centre, CORA is the department’s lead authority and centre of expertise for systems analysis and operational research. Combining scientific expertise, unique experimental facilities, and strategic alliances, DRDC CORA provides solutions and advises on today's defence and security challenges and
conducts a wide-ranging Operational Research and Analysis (OR&A) program for the Canadian Forces and DND.
Our workforce specialists are trained in one of three broad domains:
  • Operational research – the use of physics, mathematical analysis, statistics and modeling of military operations to understand key factors and risks, and to help select best options and optimal use of resources;
  • Strategic analysis - undertaking wide-ranging studies of strategically relevant defence, diplomatic, political, technological and budgetary developments of relevance to Canada's security;
  • Scientific and technical intelligence - producing technical studies in support of intelligence production and intelligence assessment.
DRDC CORA enables senior decision makers in the CF and DND to make decisions by providing timely quantitative and qualitative analysis and objective expert advice based on the scientific method.

Salary & benefits information:
- Defence Scientists (DS) are career managed within a person-oriented merit-based system. In accordance with the DS Pay Plan, both the DS level and salary are based on the individual state of professional development. Successful candidates who are not currently in the DS group will be considered for appointment to the DS level commensurate with their current state of professional development, and at a salary in accordance with the Treasury Board Terms and Conditions of Employment Policy. As described in the DS Pay Plan, promotions and salary progression are based on performance. - The DS salary is currently augmented by a pro-rated annual terminable allowance of $8,500 - as negotiated in the collective agreement;
