The Department of Statistics at the University of Manitoba invites applications for one tenure-track position (#15835) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2015, or on a mutually agreed upon date. The duties will include research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, student supervision, and service-related activities.

The Department is seeking an individual with expertise in all areas of statistics. Candidates with research programs in applied statistics such as environmental statistics, computational statistics, big data or related areas are particularly encouraged to apply. Expertise in spatial statistics, stochastic processes, Bayesian methods, and computational statistics, as well as experience in consulting or collaborative research in applied statistics would be an asset. To be successful, a candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Statistics or a related discipline by the starting date and have a strong record or outstanding promise in both research and teaching.

Founded in 1967, the Department of Statistics at the University of Manitoba has a long and rich history. The Department currently has 15 academic members, with research interests in various areas of statistics and probability. The Department has active B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs focusing on both theory and applications. The successful applicant will find that this is an exciting time to join the Department. Most faculty members have joined the Department within the past decade and it is an ideal time for a new faculty member to contribute to the reshaping of the Department's research and teaching programs.
