Lessons on Collaborations in Health Services & Policy Research: Integrating Knowledge Translation with Statistical Research
Health funding agencies are increasingly requesting that proposals include researcher and decision-maker partnerships in collaborative and multidisciplinary teams, with representatives from communities, industry, and government agencies. In this talk I will provide examples of national and international collaborations in health services and health policy research that integrate multiple disciplines, including biostatistics. These examples will focus on national and international prescription drug safety and effectiveness studies, international health outcome investigations, and studies to develop and implement new patient-reported outcome measures in clinical settings. I will describe the roles that biostatisticians can play in study design, data quality evaluation, and methods development in policy-relevant research. I will also describe opportunities for biostatisticians to participate in integrated knowledge translation, and lessons that can be learned from these activities.
