The composition and terms of reference were amended at the March and October 2018 meetings of the Board. The Terms of Reference were updated at the December 2024 Board meeting. Composition Chair: Appointed by the incoming President.Membership: President of the Statistical Education Section and five additional members in good standing, appointed by the incoming President. The members of the Committee should reflect the diversity of geography of the SSC and should include representation from across the country and at least one francophone if possible. At least three members will serve on the Florence Nightingale Days and Statistics and Data Science to Schools (SDS2S) subcommittee. Terms and Duties General Objective of the Committee:Advise SSC members on statistics education related matters, and assist in the development and implementation of initiatives intended to improve statistics education in Canada.Specific Objectives:Development and maintenance of a website for the purposes of reporting the activities of the Committee and providing links to useful on-line education resources;Service to teaching institutions: provide resources and information that could be used to present different aspects of statistics to educators and students;Service to students: provide information about career paths in statistics, student awards available in statistics, and databases and case studies that could be used for statistical projects; andProject judging in the area of statistics and awarding of the SSC prizes at the annual Canada-Wide Youth Science Fair.Run the Canadian Statistical Literacy Poster Competition ahead of the biennial ISI International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP) Poster competition.Host the subcommittee for Florence Nightingale Days (FNDs) and Statistics and Data Science to Schools (SDS2S).Florence Nightingale Days and Statistics and Data Science to Schools (SDS2S) SubcommitteeChair: Appointed by the SEC chair.Membership: All members of this subcommittee are members of the SEC, this subcommittee has at least three members appointed by the SEC chair. Ideally one member of this committee should sit on the board of the FND foundation in Ohio if they agree to have an SSC rep.Specific objectives of the Florence Nightingale Days and Statistics and Data Science to Schools (SDS2S) subcommittee:Development and maintenance of a website for the purposes of tracking and publicizing FNDs and SDS2S activities.Development and curation of materials suitable for FNDs and SDS2S activities.Support in coordinating FNDs through advertising, assistance in finding suitable partner universities and institutions, etc.Coordinate with the "Florence Nightingale Day for Statistics and Data Science" non-profit organization.Fundraising for initiatives.
