Established in 1967, the Faculty of Mathematics has grown to become a thriving centre for research and teaching in mathematical and computer sciences, and is home to the largest concentration of mathematical and computer science talent in the world. The Faculty offers bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees within its four departments (applied mathematics, combinatorics and optimization, pure mathematics, and statistics and actuarial science) and one school (the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science). With more than 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students who are some of the world’s brightest, 200 faculty members, 120 support staff, and 500 courses in mathematics, statistics and computer science, the Faculty is a true powerhouse of discovery and innovation. Reporting to the vice-president academic and provost, the dean is the Faculty’s senior executive officer. S/he will be an exceptional scholar, appointable at the rank of full professor, and will bring a background of teaching, research, and service consistent with the expectations of a dean at a world-class, research-intensive university. The new dean will also have solid senior administrative experience, ideally acquired in a complex academic organization. S/he will be an excellent communicator, an inspiring leader with a demonstrated ability to attract resources, and an individual deeply committed to collaboration and to collegial governance.
