The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a full time teaching-stream appointment in the field of Statistics. The appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer and will commence July 1, 2015.

We seek candidates with a record of outstanding teaching accomplishments, who possess the intellectual curiosity and drive to pursue innovative pedagogical methods, and are interested in establishing a long-term career as a teaching-stream faculty member in the department. The successful candidate will join a vibrant group of teaching-stream faculty, who are engaged in pedagogical and curricular innovations and research. Faculty are expected to combine their expertise in the discipline with best practices in teaching to create rich learning environments that embrace diversity, promote equity, and integrate research in a manner that challenges students to develop skills and ethics to be leading citizens.

Candidates must have a PhD in Statistics or a related field by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter, experience in teaching at the university level, and experience with the use of innovative pedagogical methods or teaching-related scholarly activities. They must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a demonstrated commitment to students’ learning, and the skills required to achieve this goal through excellent teaching. Experience working with or supervising projects in data science with modern tools is an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of an academic department, and to collaborate with colleagues on program development. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Appointments at the rank of Lecturer may be renewed annually to a maximum of five years. In the fifth year of service, Lecturers shall be reviewed and a recommendation made with respect to promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer. Senior Lecturers hold continuing appointments at the University.
