2005 Annual Meeting of the SSC in Saskatoon

Measuring and modelling space time processes for environment risk assessment

June 12, 2005
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Jim Zidek (University of British Columbia)
Nhu Le (BC Cancer Agency)

This workshop will provide an overview of statistical methods in environmental statistics. Basic concepts on measuring environmental fields such as sampling techniques, spatial sampling, data quality, measurement error and its potential effects, will be covered. The primary focus will be in the hierarchical modelling of space-time processes and the corresponding spatial interpolation. A framework for environmental impact analysis that utilizes the resulting interpolated distribution will be described. A Splus tutorial session will be used to illustrate the implementation of the methods through several examples.
